DNA Friendly?

DNA is the stuff of life. It’s what makes us all different. It’s in all the trillions of cells which make up our bodies and it makes sure they all work properly. Every day, waking or sleeping, the magic DNA is looking after us. DNA makes sure that our cells are kept in tip top condition. However, DNA can get beaten up on a daily basis. In those tiny cells in our hidden depths, there is so much action and so much energy, that DNA often comes out of it a bit the worse for wear. After a time, some tissues just don’t recover like they used to. It’s what we call ageing! Some cells lose control altogether and develop cancer because the DNA is so damaged.

Scientists believe that the colour part of the juices in berries (polyphenols), apart from making the fruit red, also act as bodyguards to the DNA. They do this by acting as roving Guardian Angels, seeking out the nano muggers and thugs (free radicals) which are daily popping up in our cells. As if in an ancient gallant suicide pact, the polyphenols (antioxidants) take on the free radicals, exterminate them, but in doing so, are themselves eliminated. The DNA survives to live another day, but new antioxidant reinforcements will be needed on a daily basis.

There are many claims made about the antioxidant strengths of different juices. For example, we have independently tested the Mulberry Juice in our cartons and compared them with other Juices. Using the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) method, we have so far found our Mulberry Juice is higher in antioxidants than even Blueberry or Cranberry!
